ATAKO International Transport, Shipping and Trading Co. Ltd. began its commercial activities in 1965 as brokers of chemical fertilizers and became affiliated with the shipping sector when it assumed responsibilities as a shipping agent for vessels chartered by BASF formerly represented by AT_ASLAN in Turkey.

  Having gained experience in this field, Atako ventured into citrus cargo shipment and it was appointed shipping agent for the Danish company “MERCANDIA” in 1972 and 1975 the former East German Conventional Cargo Carrier Company, “SEEREEDEREI ROSTOCK”, which would later be called “DSR SENATOR LINES”. In 1987 Atako set up its branch offices in Istanbul followed by the appointment as agent for “CHO YANG LINES” in 1991, opening of the “Izmir Branch Office” in 1994 and appointment as agent for “SAFMARINE” in 1995.

  Relying on its experience gained in this sector, Atako has been acting as agents for METZ CONTAINER LINE (MCL) and ”H. STINNES LINES” since 1990 and 1999 respectively. In 2006, Atako became the partner and Turkish authorized agent of FSA (Feeder Shipping Agencies) , an affiliation of UFS and MCL FEEDERS, the biggest “Feeder Operators” in the Mediterranean area.

  With respect to technological developments and trends in logistics and shipping sectors, Atako has always aspired to leadership and to this end, heartened by its successful experience in conventional and containerized cargo shipment, the Company has been carefully analyzing the course and tendency of the Turkish market and its activities eventually diversified as follows: Warehousing services, Container Terminal Facilities, Petrol Stations, Operational Vehicle Leasing, Air conditioner Distribution, Shipbuilding Business.

  On 30th May 2000 the Company ventured into the business of “Operational Vehicle Leasing” under the name of “ATAKO DESTEK” and soon became the forerunner in Operational Vehicle Leasing with multi national companies in Turkey in its portfolio. ATAKO DESTEK offers to its clients a deal whereby it buys vehicles fitting to the requirements and needs of its clients and leases them such purchased vehicles under the terms of a special payment schedule.

  Atako decided to increase the number of petrol stations in 2002 and since then it has been investing on the strategically important locations in Mersin under the name of a new affiliate, “ATAKO-KÜRK”.

  Atako since 2004 has participation in KLIMAPLUS, the exclusive distributor agent of MITSUBISHI ELECTRIC’s in Turkey. The company is offering a large range of air-conditioners product for personal, commercial and industrial uses. The name “Mitsubishi Electric” is considered synonymous with “Quality” worldwide. Thanks to its continuous commitment to research & Development as well as a leading edge approach to technological innovations Mitsubishi Electric has been the top of the market in air-condition production.

Acting as the long term contractor for SHELL GAS Company another Atako affiliate, ATAKO ROTA, provides daily distribution of LPG supplies to petrol stations and its clients’ facilities in its own LPG Tanker trucks.

For the purpose of diversifying its activities in marine shipping, Atako ventured and invested into ship building industry in April 2005 and “SOLI SHIP BUILDING AND TRADING INC.” set up for this purpose built and in 2006 put into operation its shipyard in Kocaeli on a 102.477 square meters site.
